The United Kingdom has acknowledged that it is giving Ukraine the long-range missiles it asked to combat invading Russian forces. According to the manufacturer, the Storm Shadow cruise missile has a range of more than 250 kilometers (155 miles).
In comparison, Ukraine’s Himars missiles, supplied by the US, have a range of about 80 kilometers (50 miles). According to UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, the weapons will offer Ukraine the “best chance” of defending itself.
Because they are fired from airplanes, the extended range allows Ukrainian pilots to stay further away from the frontlines.
After being launched, the Storm Shadow descends to a low altitude to escape detection by hostile radar before latching onto its target using an infrared seeker. “Together we must help Ukraine to shield its cities from Russian bombs and Iranian drones,” Mr Sunak stated then. Because of this, the UK will be the first nation to provide Ukraine with longer-range weapons.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, stated on Thursday that Moscow would respond militarily in an “appropriate” manner to any Storm Shadow weapons supplied by the UK that Ukrainian forces may use.
