China Says Tickets Will Not Be Sold To General Public Due To Covid-19

News Times Link: The Winter Olympics Beijing 2022 organizers announced on the 11th that the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games tickets will not be sold to the general public due to COVID-19, but instead will be distributed by the authorities. “In the face of the extraordinary and difficult epidemic prevention and control situation, it has been decided to change the original ticketing plan for the general public to protect the health and safety of Olympic staff and spectators,” the Commission said in the statement.
Spectator groups are invited to the stadium during the competition and must “strictly comply with COVID-19 prevention and control requirements before, during and after the competition”.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said in a statement on Monday that “mainland Chinese residents who have the necessary COVID-19 response measures will attend the Games.”
The announcement comes after Beijing reported the first case of a highly contagious variant of omicron on January 15.
The Beijing Winter Olympics kick off on February 4th and the Winter Paralympics start on March 4th.
Organizers plan to host Beijing 2022 as a closed system, which is only available to Olympic participants. A plan that was maintained despite the rapid expansion of the Omicron variant.
As outlined in the gamebook published in December, the closed-loop system includes its own transport services to stadiums, official hotels and events.
Fully vaccinated participants can enter a lockdown cycle without quarantine, while unvaccinated participants will be quarantined for 21 days upon arrival in Beijing.
Medical waivers, considered on a case-by-case basis, may be granted to unvaccinated people. Some countries, such as the United States and Canada, require all team members to be vaccinated.
During the competition, participants will undergo daily medical examinations and examinations and will not come into contact with the general public.
Upon a confirmed positive test, the participant will not be able to join the game or continue their role in the game. Those with symptoms will be treated at designated hospitals, while those without symptoms will be quarantined.
