- In a bid to fight negative perception and misinformation about gaming, online gaming companies have come together to set up a Skilled Online Games Institute (SOGI).
 - The institute has members from prominent gaming companies on its board and is backed by All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) and eGamers and Players Welfare Association (EPWA).
 - It is in the process of roping in members of academia covering all the Industry, social, legal and psychological aspects of the industry, officials said
 - Headquartered in Gurgaon, the institute has entered into a collaboration with IIM Bangalore, IIT Roorkee, and National University of Judicial Sciences Kolkata.
 - To train people in technical, management and legal aspects of the gaming sector.
 - The institute is also in talks with many international institutions for the potential training and tie-ups, officials said.
 - The mission of SOGI is to be the repository of knowledge concerning all aspects of this industry, positive and negative.
 - Which will allow for a balanced debate, to ensure that Indian companies can continue to participate in this industry that has great potential.
 - And can compete with its international peers in a responsible manner said Amrit Kiran Singh, president of the institute.
 - Singh who previously worked as CEO of Jack Daniels in South and Southeast Asia for over two decades, said negative perception based on misinformation.
 - Has the potential to damage the industry which is still in its nascent stages in India.
 - Over the past five years, it online gaming industry got off to a flying start but for regulation to keep up with its growth.
 - It is the responsibility of the industry to ensure that there is a free flow of authentic facts and data on all facets of the industry so that decisions regarding the industry are based on hard facts singh told ET.
 - There is a vacuum today, resulting in decisions that could damage the $3 billion online gaming industry.
 - Globally, Singh said, online gaming is double the size of movie and music industries together.
 - Some of the negatives of the industry can be minimised by the use of technology.
 - Adding that SOGI intends to work with the regulators to use its knowledge base.
 - To maximise the benefits of this industry to the Indian economy while minimising its negative aspects of video games.
